During the 90s, using the fighting techniques of holds, deflecting, pressing, squeezing, grabbing, elbowing, bumping, scanning left, scanning right, moving forwards, retreating backwards, maintaining equilibrium, I have selected 13 movements out from the Old Frame routine and choreographed them into a Thirteen Old Frame routine. It is a summary of iconic techniques in Chen Taijiquan Boxing and captures Chen Taijiquan’s oppositional characteristics. There is the representative Buddha’s warrior attendant pounds mortar move, the Hidden thrust punch for power which can be released at will or hidden within; the Lazily tying coat move, the Single whip for scanning right and left, the Six sealing, four closing move for extension or flexing; the deep Low lying dragon move for training lower leg muscles, and the Golden rooster stands on one leg move for practising balance and spinal extension; the Whirling upper arms and White goose spreads wings moves to practise moving forwards and retreating backwards. Collectively, these 13 postures form a concise and perfect routine. In this decade and more, many have practiced this routine and set a solid foundation in Chen Taijiquan Boxing. #taichi #chentaichi #zhutiancai
