The Chen-style Taijiquan First Routine — including the Old Frame, Small Frame and New Frame — represents some of the most classic gongfu routines within Chen-style Taijiquan. These routines were developed, tested and refined by past generations through many years of dedicated practice.
They bring together combat applications, practical theory, gongfu training and health cultivation. Each frame has its own distinctive character, clear training value and elegant expression, which is why they continue to be loved by Taijiquan practitioners.
With the progress of society, improved living conditions and the ongoing development of traditional culture, Taijiquan has become a popular form of exercise and self-cultivation enjoyed by many people.
The Tiancai Taijiquan system takes the three First Routines and, through the principle of “combining the three essences into one”, selects and organises their most distinctive postures into this 56-form comprehensive routine. The routine further highlights artistry, visual appeal, performance quality, martial application and health cultivation.
Students who have already learnt the three First Routines may use this routine for deeper understanding, integrated practice and refinement. The names of the 56 forms are listed below for study and reference.
