Here’s an interesting tidbit. The biomechanics behind Chenjiagou Taijiquan’s Fa Jing may be explained using plyometrics. Now, what is this plyometrics?
It is basically the application of this equation :
POWER = Speed + Strength.
Plyometrics is a method of training to enhance or improve your power or explosive reaction. Each burst of power is achieved through powerful muscular contractions as a result of rapid, eccentric contractions. In effect, you are actually training your body to accelerate quickly when you need to.
Both speed and strength are the two main aspects of a person’s fitness. It is found in varying degrees in virtually all athletic movements. While you may not be a professional athlete, you can incorporate this type of training to boost your athletic performance. You can work in a plyometric training to improve your speed, agility and power.
So how do you train this? Remember your Yan Shou Hong Quan? Well, follow through the entire sequence of movement for 50 times continuosly. Yep, tried, tested and proven by our teacher, Master Zhu Tian Cai.
